![]() Many were scornful, unbelievers whose sole intent was to discredit the children’s stories. Though the region had been subjected to three days of torrential downpour, nearly 70,000 people journeyed through the heavy rain and mud to the place of the previous apparitions to witness the predicted miracle. When it became known the Lady would visit the children for the last time on October 13, 1917, and had promised a sign that would convince the world she had appeared, many pilgrims made plans to attend. While many people believed the children had actually seen the Virgin, many others discounted the children’s story, subjecting them to much derision and ridicule. She promised that God would grant peace to the entire world if Her requests for prayer, reparation and consecration were heard and obeyed. The children recounted that the Virgin told them that God had sent her with a message for every man, woman, and child living in the century. News of these apparitions began to spread throughout the region. As was the custom, these youngsters were tending their family’s sheep when “a Lady all in white, more brilliant than the sun… indescribably beautiful,” standing above a bush, appeared to the youngsters.įrom May through October 1917, the Lady appeared and spoke to the children on the 13th day of each month. The various ministries Pastor Rick has created are a multi-faceted expression of his heart to bring the whole Gospel to the whole world. Rick Warren is an innovative pastor, renowned author, and global influencer. This devotional is written by Pastor Rick Warren. The Bible says, “God began doing a good work in you, and I am sure he will continue it until it is finished when Jesus Christ comes again” (Philippians 1:6 NCV). Remember that growing up spiritually is a lifelong journey. It’s slow and sometimes difficult, but over time it will build strong character in you. How God works is the opposite of a vending machine. A vending machine gives you what you want immediately, but much of what it offers is just junk that will harm you in the long run. You might want the process to be quick and easy, like a vending machine. God wants to build character in your life. During periods of grief, you’ll learn joy. It’s easy to love people who are lovely God will teach you love by putting you around unlovely people, so you have to learn love. So how does God produce this kind of fruit in your life? He puts you in situations that are opposite of the fruit he’s growing in you. The fruits of the Spirit are the perfect picture of who Jesus is and how he acts: “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT). It was God’s plan from the very beginning, even before Adam sinned. God’s plan has always been for you to become like Jesus. The Bible says, “From the very beginning God decided that those who came to him-and all along he knew who would-should become like his Son” (Romans 8:29 TLB). But God is far more interested in who you are than what you do. You’ve probably spent a lot of time trying to determine what you want to do in life. God wants you to grow up and become more like Jesus. That’s why God wants you to learn to think like Jesus, act like Jesus, and value what Jesus does. Jesus showed us exactly what it means to be fully human. He was God in human form and lived a perfect life. Jesus is the only perfect human being who ever lived.
